PTGC Toppers: Two mixed up Mephisto beans
Currently sitting in Jiffy humidity dome. I mixed them up at some point so I won't know which is which until flowering (if ever).
Growing in coco with 40% perlite; currently under 3 CFLs, but will later switch on my 2 HLG 100 LEDs.
Will post pics as soon as they pop!
Day 6 update: seeds popped on day 2 (after soak).
The taller one, tallboy (TB), grew perfectly, but stretched out a bit so I moved it closer to the light.
Taproot on smaller guy (SG) never popped out, so I carefully removed the whole jiffy pellet net and uppotted it anyway.
Last night I turned on a small fan to get their stems thickening. I'm having some trouble balancing temps and RH. If I turn on the exhaust, temps drop to 79, but humidity also drops to 50 RH. If I leave exhaust off, humidity stays around 75%, but temps go as high as 90 degrees.
I think once they're uppotted again this will be less of a problem but for now it's worrying.
The leaves on TB seem a bit yellow and a bit curly. I've been feeding it day 1 nutrients for 4 days (450 EC, 6.3 ph). I think I need to up the nutrients--specifically calmag and nitrogen, but this could also be caused by the temps.
Any advice there would be appreciated.
Welp. My cat forced her way into my tent (her sole mission in life is to get in there and eat whatever she can).
She bit off the stubby one and spit it out on the opposite side of the tent. All of the roots were torn off but the bottom of the stem was still very white so I replanted it just in case. It looks like it’s slowly dying but I still have a sliver of hope.
The good (great) news is that tall boy is alive and well; she couldn’t reach that one thankfully. already has 5 nodes on day.
I have a HLG 100 (100w) on right now. Bigger lights are still off. Feeding according to site schedule.
Couple small ish brown spots on TB but only on one pair of leaves and they’re older…so hoping nothing significant
Popped a new seed (Wedding Cake by Barney’s) in case the pseudo-clone doesn’t make it. It seems a bit stunted since it popped two days ago and it still doesn’t really have its serrated leaves out. (day 3)
The pseudo clone is alive!! It’s definitely a survivor — shoutout to mephisto for great genetics. It’s unclear to me what to do with it right now. The roots out of the sides keep getting fatter but I think those roots are from before the cat attack…? Not sure, confused there.
Main mephisto bb is still thriving. Day 15 and I transplanted to final pot (5 gallon fabric) on day 13. I’m gonna top it tonight. I’m thinking of just cutting to one node down. Will update soon. However brown spots continue on older leaves. I believe it’s cal deficiency. Next time I’m going to buffer this coco even though it said pre buffered.
PSUEDO CLONE LIVES! she’s doing great and she’s got scars to prove how tough she is 😂😾😈
i topped the main plant two days ago and today she looked more than recovered so I tied her down with u hooks.
this grow is suddenly looking a lot better
with that said, “decapitated seedling” is now dead—but after pulling it out it’s clear it wasn’t decapitated…the taproot had just grown up and upside down
DAY 21 THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY
Main plant is bushing out like crazy! I snapped a couple branches while doing some LST, but it's early enough that hopefully it'll have the effect of just more topping.
The plant formerly known as pseudo clone is doing great. I had to up pot it already to my 5 gallon! Obviously stunted but after what she's been through she's basically a giant.
Wedding cake runt is still extremely stunted and its leaves keep growing wrinkled. I probably won't have much space in my tent for more than 2 plants anyway (5sq ft tent), so I'm not concerned about that one.
Some concerning signs on my main plant. Looks like calcium deficiency and maybe something else? Could be early thrips? I'm really not sure. Any feedback here would be extremely appreciated
Plants are thriving even the pseudo clone nobody believed in.
The main plant is growing so quickly that training her is almost a full time job.
the wrinkly-leaved little runt finally came through. Probably going to transplant her into a solo cup and at least get a few joints out of her.
I also added a trellis net because supporting the buds was a real issue during my last grow
canopy is looking great. main plant is thriving and first pistils are coming in. She’s reached the trellis net which I’m just using for support not scrog
No sign of bug marks on leaves since I started spraying with Dr Zymes
I decided not to top (sorry lol) the smaller two since they’ve already begun so stressed and stunted. Hoping this way they grow taller and reach the trellis net too
So far so good…
Canopy top looks really great but I’ve been having some persistent leaf issues on the bottom. Any ideas? I didn’t pre buffer the coco bc bag said it was buffered (mistake I know) so I just upped the cal mag back to 5ml per gallon
