Roots Organic Compost Tea
I'm growing in fox farms ocean mix. For now, I'm using the general hydroponics synthetic nutes. I have been brewing both the grow and terp tea once a week but recently noticed the EC is really high when mixing the nutes in with the tea.
What I'm wondering is if I should be adding the General hydroponics to my tea or if I should skip the synthetic nutes when watering with compost tea.
Typically, you shouldn't mix them. Ocean forest runs a high ec to begin with and synthetic nutes will exasperate that. You should fertilize with a much lower ec if you're using nutes every time you water in soil and get plenty of run off to control the root zone ec.
I know some folks who alternate the tea and nutes, but not mix them. Synthetic nutes will always out compete any nutrition from teas, as the microbes need time to break stuff down from the tea. I don't think there is any real benefit from mixing, but I haven't looked into it.
As we all know, soil doesn't need to be watered very often with cannabis. Soil will hold onto a lot of that fertilizer and ec will rise due to evaporation of water because the plant doesn't necessarily use all the water we give it.
I personally wouldn't mix the two. I'm not sure what the ec of the solution you're feeding is after mixing but I'm sure it has to be diluted.
I appreciate the info a lot. Thank you!
I'm pretty new to this and find myself mixing different grow techniques instead of sticking to one and getting it down. I think root burn has been a problem all 3 times I've tried growing. Seems to me, the way to go would be to use one of those no till super soils.
But back to the problem at hand. I'm not exactly sure what my EC should be for 3 week old soir diesel autos. But with the tea and nutes it was about 2,500. I'd like to be around 1,000.
I mix my own soils and get by with mostly water. There are a few recipes here in the soil section, all have proven to do a good job.
Yes you will want your ec to be roughly 1200 for your stage of growth. That being said, you can probably dilute the solution to around 700-800 ec for soil. Ec will rise in the root zone between watering, and feeding a lower ec will help keep it where it needs to be.
Just check your run off ec and lower feed solution as needed. Sometimes less is more when it comes to nutrients and cannabis. Happy growing!
Are there draw backs to using a living soil indoors? I'm worried that once established, the beneficial insects and such will spread throughout my house.
Thanks again @Chefomj!
Some predators will just move on if there isn't a food source, they won't stick around your house unless there is an abundance of food.
Lady bugs are one of the hardest to keep around, they will leave if their needs aren't met.
Growing indoors, regardless of grow style, will attract pests. You're making conditions perfect for insects to hide and thrive. If you've ever had an infestation you will see the bugs stick to the grow area, once there are no plants they typically move on. Some may often stick around for the next cycle, but keep themselves confined to an area or source of food.
I wouldn't worry about beneficials getting all over the house. They would remove any unwanted pests and just move on or die off if there isn't food around. Pests can stick around longer than beneficials and would move to other house plants or a vegetative area right outside your door.
Here are my 4 sour diesel autos from ILGM. They are 41 days from germination today. They look good in my not so professional opinion. The one on the bottom right of the pictures from the top, is grown in coco. That one is blowing up compared to the 3 in FFOF.
I have you guys to thank for the advice! Would love feedback about the plants

How is the humidity? Do you know the leaf temp in that area? Sometimes grow spaces get pockets of dry air, especially if fans are running or it's directly under the exhaust. In return there could be pockets of humid air without proper airflow, example being, the fan doesn't reach the other side of the grow space.
Do you fluctuate your pH? I have to check but I think 5.8 may be a little low. I run between 6.0 and 6.5. Don't be afraid to fertigate again, twice is okay but three would be better. Flowering plants can drink a lot of water.
Its really humid here right now. We have been getting rain the last few days. Typically, my humidity is in the mid 50's. Currently, its about 62-68% even with my dehu running all day. I have a box fan on the far left side of my tent blowing toward the plants, it rests on the ground. I also have an oscillating fan clipped to my gear board on the opposite side of the tent. This one is about mid level. Above that is my exhaust.
The temp is always between 75 degrees F and 80 degrees.
I just fertigated again, ph was 6.18 and the EC was almost an even 1,000. Just under.
Thank you @Chefomj
Some genetics have a natural tendency to be purple. Cold nights can do it as well. I'm sure your fine, I've never seen evidence of it being a sure thing with cannabis. Usually it's just genetics.
When checking the pH with Coco, you don't have to check outflow. As long as inflow is within range, don't worry about run off pH. It can have you chasing your tail if you're adjusting it according to run off.
The humidity is probably causing the twisting, hopefully the weather will turn in your favor soon. I know how it goes lol.
Happy growing!
