PTGC Misfits: Key Lime Chem

Page 1 / 10 Next

I’m going to grow Key Lime Chem for the purpose of making F2 seeds. I have no experience with this cultivar out of JD Short’s Second Generation Genetics, and I will be growing it in a 2’x2’ box. So... my plan is to do whatever I need to do to conform these plants to the 4sqft canopy.

Starting out: I’m going to 5 regular seeds under an HLG 65 v2 4k in coco. Nutrient solution will be Jack’s Clone at 5.8-6.2 pH with ReCharge and Ful-Humix.

Veg: I will grow them vegetatively in a 3’x3’ under an HLG 100 v2 4k with Jack’s 321 at 2.2EC (if tolerated) with ReCharge and Ful-Humix.

Bloom/Pollination: Female plants will go into my 2’x2’ custom box under an HLG 135 R-spec. Nutrients will be Jack’s 321 with Tribus. I would normally use a 2 week Bloom solution, however I’m not leaning that way ATM. Male plants are going to get quarantined under the HLG 65 in party cups. They’ll be fine.

Notes: I have the option to keep any of these plants cloned in veg. I’m probably going to do that with at least a few of them.

LET’S GOOOOOooooo

I sanded 5 seeds and placed them in 60ml of water with 6 ml of H2O2.

Some possible scenarios:

I don’t get a male. In that case I could just pick one or more to clone and flower for sinsemilla, and keep the mothers in veg while I look for a male plant in additional seeds.

The plants could be really lanky. I can always take clones off the mature plants and flower them, saving some height.

I could get 5 males. Similar outcome as all females, except I wouldn’t take clones. I’ll probably run something else in the breeding box if that happens.

I can’t think of any other unavoidable issues at this time.

I’ve described my grow box in great detail here.

3/5 seeds are visibly open. The other 2 are in paper towel atop my external hard disk. The sprouted seeds are in buffered coco inside a dome.

4th seed popped yesterday. I’m holding out hope for the 5th (and final) but it’s turned darker which, in my experience, is an indication of necrosis.

None of the seedlings had emerged as of 9 am this morning.

As of 9 AM today only 2 seedlings have emerged.

I applied water with a little bit of recharge to all 4 coco cells.

The remaining seed is still in paper towel. I’m holding out hope.

The germination tray is under a humidity dome as of yesterday.

I gently cracked the straggling seed, and planted it in the tray of coco with the others. They’re all in a cool basement now, since we’re in a heat wave.

All 5 seeds/seedlings have failed. I’m going to take another pass at the Key Lime Chem. I’m going to really formalize my germination practices, because I’ve been lax lately and it shows.

6 more seeds are soaking in 3% H2O2 for 10 minutes. After that I’ll dilute the solution with water at a 1:5 ratio for an overnight soak.

Once the seeds open up I’ll place them in rooting plugs or coco coir with mosquito bits.

I planted the six soaked seeds in buffered coir/perlite. I scattered a generous helping of Mosquito Bits atop the coir.

They’re in a germination tray under a humidity dome with a heat mat underneath.

Nobody warned me that mosquito bits would cause a fungal hyphae bloom. I was caught off guard and thought it was a problem.
