Before writing up this post I was perusing the other @predicativebreeding journals and was mildly amused at how similar some of the descriptions are: NERC is squatty with tight node spacing, making it difficult to apply LST techniques - I'm having the same thing with my two; the Diesel Candy plants are growing like crazy and I'm trying to tie them down so I can keep them at about the same level as the others.  Of course it's genetics of the specific strains that we're all working, but it is reassuring to me that you all are having similar issues.  And, you all have your own method of addressing those issues and openly share.  That's what makes community so special.  Thanks to all who have provided suggestions and guidance.

Short and squatty but healthy, right?

We returned home today after a few days of much-needed vacation and I'm happy to report the Blumats did what they're supposed to do: they watered the plants while we were gone.  In fact they worked flawlessly.   The girls are growing like mad.  A question: should I defoliate or otherwise clean up some leaves to allow more air reach the middle?  I'm fighting high humidity and found some overlapping leaves with a fair bit of moisture between them.  A first for me as a newish grower.  I have heard perfectly reasonable opinions on both sides.  What say the collective wisdom of the forum?

While I was happy overall after these few days away, there was a bit of damage, unfortunately.  I lowered the house thermostat to 52f and this led to the heater in the tent running regularly.  2 plants have more than a few leaves that are dried to a crisp.  I have reconfigured the tent and this shouldn't happen again.

Some pics...

New England Rock Candy - both are really taking off.  NERC01 is one of the plants that got scorched.

Diesel Candy - these girls are really stretching.  Love their progress so far.

It's been a minute and more than time to write an update.  Things are moving along quite nicely.  Watering, for the most part is handled by the Blumats, but I am also hand-watering with calmag, alternating with bone meal and Roots Organics HPK.

I have been wrestling with humidity issues without a dehumidifier; I think the start of spring, with its attending increase in humidity has been working against me as well as the leaf mass releasing moisture.  I was noticing some liquid water on top of leaves that had another leaf touching.  So, yesterday everybody got a haircut except me - but that's another story.  LOL.   I ended up with a bucket of leaves of about 5 quarts after defoliating the girls.  Hope this helps.  More importantly I have not seen any sign of PM.  I do have a couple fans inside the tent to keep the air moving.

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.

Here's a few pics...

New England Rock Candy - I think they have fully recovered from their early trauma from the hot soil.

Cruising right along.  I may be biased, and have almost no growing experience, but IMHO, these ladies are looking pretty nice.

So, yesterday I was sitting in the basement with the grow tents doors wide open while smoking a joint, grousing about the lack of spring-like weather and, of course the damn lockdown when I took these pics.  I'd say the girls are just cruising along looking pretty good.  However, as I sat there I noticed that the very tips of some leaves are yellowing just a bit.  Could this be from overwatering?  I'm using Blumats to handle the majority of the watering but I have been hand-watering them every 4 to 6 days with some calmag and bone meal.  Each plant gets about 40oz. of water into the 7 gallon pots.  Is this too much water?    Would appreciate any comments.

So, it's been awhile.  I was so disappointed when all four plants hermied on me.  I have no idea when this occurred, but I suspect it was later in flower.  The plants smell and taste terrific albeit with some seeds.  I will likely just use this stuff for edibles.  I'm so bummed.  I will likely participate in future grow challenges, but this one was a bust for me.

Out

Keith
