Chilled 200w led,
2'x2.5 shorty gorilla grow tent.
Buildasoil 3.0 soil
2 lbs of worms
Blumat drippers
4th cycle growing
The bed is 24”x30”x20” tall with buildasoil cover crop planted, Blue Oyster Mushroom Straw and blumats moisture level is around 80 mbar. Planning on dialing it in more around 100 once planted.
So I was curious about what seeds we were getting so I emailed Kyle from Predicative Breeding and he’s sending 3 New England Rock Candy and 3 of breeders choice. I didn’t get the info on how to get seeds until a week ago so I have yet to receive mine. Anyone have any info on the Rock Candy? I’m somewhat new to all of this and by no means have fully understood all the genetics and information out there so let me know please. Can’t wait to be growing along side others with more knowledge even though my growing style is different then most I’m hoping we can all learn together!!
Ill also be adding 6’ of blusoak tape hoping that will increase the population of all the good stuff along with keeping the worms happy.
So this weekend I added the blusoak tape and installed a pressure regulator instead of using the 5 gallon reservoir hoping to get more constant moisture. I’m not sure if I had my reservoir high enough but seemed like I was having to adjust the carrots more then I would have liked. I will update and hopefully really enjoy the tape. It seems to perform better then the distributor I was using.
I also added about 2 inches of coast of Maine lobster compost along with some craft blend top dress from @buildasoil and rice hauls. Hopefully the worms will enjoy and make some castings by the time I’m transplanting.
I’m also planning on trying these new starting cubes. There running a special for $10 to cover shipping for 6 cubes. Seems expensive but looks like it might be different. I emailed them and they said they could ship before new years so I was pleased. https://www.symsoil.com/promo
No seeds yet but he said he was going to be checking his mail today and would have them in the mail tomorrow!!
Shout out if the atlas plant trainers haven’t been given away yet. I usually use a 4”x4” Hogwire that’s been powder coated black. It seems to work for my needs but I have always thought the atlas plant trainers were sweet!!
So the seeds arrived and Im ready to get growing!!! I also have got the breeders cherry cake so that should be an exciting grow !! Im a seed hoarder which can be problematic as there is only so much time to taste the great!!!
My cover crop should be in full affect by new years and planning on getting some beneficial insects within a few weeks. Ive added some nematodes in the past dealing with some fungas gnats which is to be expected when using compost and bringing in live castings which cause some issues. But never ran into anything that caused damaged.
So in the quest to always have a project I plan on installing pex tubing with about 5 gallon res of heated water to about 78 degrees to warm up my beds.. My tent temp averages about 75-78 but of course I had to buy a soil temp gauge and its hovering between 60 and 70 degrees. So also having reef tanks Im going to rig up a small pump, 50 watt heater and this manifold of pex I built. Im hoping this will increase my soil life and bring temps up in tent as I am running the led which likes 78-85 in my tent.
So I went with 4 NERC and soaked them in water for 12 hours in which 2 popped. I didn't stay up till midnight so I planted them on the evening of the 31. Placed them in the cubes and lightly covered with soil and placed on my direct tv receiver. This morning all 4 had come out of soil and snagged a picture. These cubes had 2 little pellets filled with all kinds of good stuff which I am guessing these are usually meant for clones but so far seeds do well. Just placed under lights set at 50% veg mode and about 2 feet above container. I will be transplanting into 1 gallons very soon as these will dry out very fast.
This will be the first time with 4 plants in bed at same time. I have always grown 2 and done a little longer veg. This time 4 plants and hoping to transplant around week 3/4 into bed then a 10 days to flip to 12/12 but this is just the idea. Hopefully everyone will be seeing there beans popping soon!!
So I decided to up pot to some grassroots fabric 1g pots and a lite sprinkle of bokashi. I used a local coco base seedling start called dirt organics since this is Coco for cannabis right!! Roots seem to be healthy and happy could have gone a little longer I just have a hard time getting into my garden 2 time a day. #4 was the stretchy one and all the other ones seemed very strong but 4 was definitely having a hard time staying up on its own. I went with a new mycrorize product called dynomyco and will see how that goes. I usally always use wallace wow and have never had a problem the wow product was 300 popagules where this one is 900. I could only find it on amazon so will give it a try.
The radiant heat seems to be working well was about 75 degrees this morning. Water temp I was running then was 80 so I turned it up to 88 and will hope for around 80 in soil. Will be keeping a close eye on temp as I don't want tent temps to get much higher. Right now tent temp is 75.5 humidity is 58.6 using the Govee monitor which Im not sure I would recommend. Wanted the pulse monitor but man is it expensive.
As far as lighting I was running 50% veg which was on 24 hours. Switched to 18/6 and went up to 60% which in veg is 60 white 60 blue and 40 red.
I also went ahead and tried out the wyze camera just to keep up with my grow and it turned out to be a cheap time lapse camera. So far its working excellent even with my horrible network connection. Here is a shot from it I mounted it on the side of my light and seems to be a great overall shot of tent.
Not much going on just watching them grow. #2 seems to be doing great almost twice the size of the others. This picture is from Sunday so there definitely grown a lot more.
So just snapped some pictures as you can see #2 is just growing.. Im no expert at this game so any suggestion are appreciated. Watering about every day and a half. This being coco in the bags has me mainly going by weight. Worms seem to be enjoying the warmer temps since I added my soil heater still hovering around 78 degrees soil temp which is way better then 60 to 70. Have not been feeding to heavy just recharge, fish shit and some of the buildasoil stuff. with a sprinkle of bokashi every week. There is some light discoloration so Im hoping this will correct it self.
Sorry for the confusion @chefomj .. The pots are just sitting on top of there.Im not a no till junkie I can dig a little bit in soil to get them in there. I usually use the same soil thats in the pots in the smaller ones just to get them started. They are 1 gallon pots so they have plenty of room to grow with some good coco. Also I had amended beds and was mainly giving the worms time to break down all the good stuff before planting them into the bed.
I have direct seeded some auto-flowers with no problem but I mainly was trying it because I believe @Dr-coco had mentioned it was better to fill out a small pot and transplant. Not to sure but I am planing on transplanting at 1 month if all goes well.
Its crazy to see how many different ways these same seeds express themselves.. can't wait till next month!!
Topped on Tuesday. Still planing on transplanting on Friday into the bed as I am going to be out of room once these take off. Thinking of leaving the 2 runts topped just once and then topping the to bigger ones 4 times and see what happens. Space is going to be tight with 4 but really wanting to see all the different traits.
