So more updates, more for my notes than anything. Had dinner with my mentor/partner Sunday night and we discussed the fertigation system, and how it should work. We narrowed it down to selecting the dripper flow rate then telling the system how much to fertigate in milliliters per event, and how many fertigation events per day. The flow rate and milliliters are used to compute how long a fertigation event needs to pump out the prescribed milliliters. The number of fertigation events are used to compute how long between fertigation events in seconds. When sunrise occurs the system will perform a fertigation event at the beginning of the day. Once the fertigation event starts it will time how long it takes until runoff is detected. If the runoff takes more than 2 minutes to be detected then the system will increase the fertigation amount by 50 milliliters, if the fertigation amount goes above 400 milliliters then it will add another fertigation event, and reset the fertigation amount to 200 milliliters. This is probably not the final algorithm but it is a start. I was manually adjusting the amount of events, and how long each fertigation event takes. I am excited to see how this works out. This was a manual process and I was not doing a good job with the adjustments. Just so we know I am using a 2gph dripper and to fertigate 120ml it takes about 1 minute so this will go from about 1.5 minutes up to 4 minutes then add an event and go back down to 1.5 minutes. Then it will ramp that up if it takes more than 2 minutes to runoff, rinse and repeat. I like the fertigation event amount instead of event time.

One other thing I forgot is when the lights go off it will double the fertigation event timer since the plants don't require as much water during lights off, since they don't transpire as much as they do during active photosynthesis.

Update on the auto fertigation 200ml is too small for a 1g pot didn't generate enough ruoff to be detected. 300ml in a 1g pot seems to do the trick. I also had to change the timers as 2minutes is too short of a time 200 seconds seems to be the correct time for runoff on the 1 g pots. I really don't want to have to ask the pot size but the system was adapting with the old values but ramped up really quickly to 10 fertigations a day since it was missing runoff at 200 ml per event. Been running a couple days with 300 ml of runoff being detected under 200 seconds. I think the next fertigation it will ramp up to another event.

Where does the time go? It’s been a minute and we have some nice looking flowers 🌺.

I am starting to experience very high runoff numbers over the past few days. 600-700 over I don’t think my coco is absorbing water.

Batch 101 1 failed batch this is working so much better than my last grow with the auto system. There have been some minor growing pains with the auto fertigation system. But it is nothing like the SAFC grow where 1 in 3 batches failed. The plants are loving 🥰 life, PH is rock stable EC is rock stable. I did have a mishap the other day when doing a firmware update. The fertigation timer did not restart so I didn’t fertigate for 15 hours and threw my ec out of wack but some higher frequency fertigation fixed the issue and judicious stabbing of my coco with a skewer seems to have done the trick. EC is back in check, and the plants haven’t really shown any major symptoms of high ec just a slight leaf tip burn. I was seeing runoff ec in the high 2,200. Now it is back down at 1400 with inflow ec of 1145.

Nice flowers

Now on to a sad story, poor little branch just couldn't hold her weight.

Raised her up to the net, hope she hangs in there.

Okay time for the weekly update since I am heading out of town for the next 2-3 weeks. I won't be able to take good pictures when I cannot open the tent. This grow is probably my best yet, as these flowers look amazing. Enough talk let's take a look at what is cooking in the grow tent.

I am probably going to have to pay Dr Coco for the storage of these fine pics, as they are taken with my DSLR, and that camera likes to spit out big high resolution files.

Purple Irkle is showing, and more frosty than frosty the snowman (did Christmas come early in the tent? The flowers are making thc snow) . The anthocyanin, is showing up on the purple. Wished I could get it colder RBT is probably cursing me right now, but when you live in the heat you grow with the heat.

Well we are in the final week before harvest. These girls are looking great, and the average VOCs are rising above 100 so they are putting out some crazy 😜 good smells. It is as close to scratch and sniff as I can get while being far far away. The plants colors are changing as they find it easier to re-allocate nutrients than processing them thru the roots. Love the flower structure. Keeping humidity low in the tent to make sure the fungus and molds don’t ruin these flowers.

Final harvest weighed in at 100G for the Purple Irkle, and 205G for the Amy Aces. 65g of the Amy Aces had bud rot but I can use some of that flower for edibles. The total weight was 305g for 3 plants. My lights are at 651uMol total 2 150w Vipar Spectra XS1500 pro. So 305g / 651uMol = 0.47g/uMol. I will not win any awards for efficiency, but it was a fun grow none the less. The purple Irkle ended up being the best flower I have grown so far, as far as terpenes, and flavor. Not a big harvester but let's face it the conditions were against me on this one.

Some other fun data that the system collects. Power and Nutrient Used I had water used but that didn't track that well, since any time the system would fertigate or make a batch it would add up the flows of those into the water totals. Water consumption on average was about 1.25 g per day x 104 days = 130g but the RO system rejects about 30-50% so it was closer to 260 gallons total.

644.1 KWH Total energy used by the grow = $57.97 @ $0.10 per KWH

16 ml PH Up used

68 ml PH Down used

303 ml Armor SI used

602 ml Cal/Mag used

506 ml Micro used

238 Grow used

730 ml Bloom used

596 ml Diamond Nectar used

423 ml H2O2 used

Total grow cost was

Nutrients $62.50

Power       $57.97

Water       $ 1.30

RO Filter:   $32.50

DI Resin:    $23.56

Total:       $177.83

Equipment is not calculated in the total cost since it is a depreciating asset, and has to be amortized over how many grows it is used.

The doser costed 1600.00 and it made 150 batches so it added aboout 10 bucks every day making a batch. The doser is still going so if I get another grow it goes down to 5 bucks a day. 5 dollars a day is a cup of starbukles coffee, do you want some great flower, got 5 bucks a day to spend on it???
