You know it's close when you can see the finish line and then bud rot sets in. It has started to crop up so to speak. It started with the "highly resistant" strain of Frisian Dew. I removed a spot from the Vanilla Kush that was right next door. It appears that only the CPK has not succumbed. I have snipped the effected buds well below any sign of rot. I have pulled the Frisian Dew and will harvest tomorrow. I'll keep a close eye on everything else in the meantime. I was planning to use 5 gal automatic burping buckets but I am hesitant to put all the eggs in one basket if there is botrytis about.
Indoors, or as I have dubbed it, "The Land of the Giants", I am trying to get something going to salvage the mess I've made of things. 2 of 3 Cinderella Jacks popped so they are in 5 gal fabric pots filled with a custom soil blend with peat. I lazily dropped 2 more strains "Johnny Appleseed " style. Directly into the final pot after a 4 hour soak. Fingers crossed.
This week has had some significant changes in the weather patterns. Night time temps in the 50'sF. Morning fog and humidity in the 80's. These are some dicey conditions with huge colas hanging on the plants. Both Frisian Dew have been harvested. Temp and humidity OK in the drying room but struggling to bring both down a bit. Pretty much outta room where I regularly dry so this will be interesting with 6 more coming. Rain possible in about 10 days so this might be the sign to harvest. Only 2 Vanilla Kush will fit on the porch. I'll have to see how they look next week.
Last Plant Standing. Romulan Grapefruit! I did some defoliating to prepare it for harvest. It is the cutest little bonsai plant. It won't be a big producer but I can't expect too much from a runt. I'm going to put this strain in the category of "Does not respond well to topping". It has been interesting though. One of the tops looks like a fist. It was tied down from the beginning and was fighting the restraints.
Keg Cup Challenge officially too challenging. I was unable to provide this poor plant what it needed. Rather than let it bow out gracefully, I transplanted into a 5 gal. pot. Not that it is going to catch any breaks though. It is in with a tent full of auto flowers on a 20/4 light schedule. She's looking a whole lot better now. But the pot I was using was from a recent attempt at getting some PCG seeds started. Long after I had given up on germination this rascal popped out next to the White Widow (former keg cup plant). The smallest plant was planted at the same time as the largest. The oldest plant was started a month earlier and is half the size of the largest. I gotta get it together man! 😛
Nothing left outside. It's indoors from now on until next year. Cinderella Jack is coming along. Just started flowering so I hit them with Beastie Bloomz. One more PK blast and I'll switch to Bloom. Once again, I appear to have 2 phenos at opposite ends. One has tiny thin light green leaves and the other has wide dark green. All other conditions are the same. I think I finally have the humidifier programmed properly and I have had stable and humid conditions. Not sure what that means for the photo period White Widow (former Keg Cup) when I dry conditions out for flowering.
I may be crazy but I think I have a plan for the White Widow now. I'll top it a couple times in the next 2 months to slow down the growth a little. Since it is in with the autos on a 20/4 schedule, I am anticipating alot of growth. Then when the NYGC rolls around in Jan I can take clones from her. Or if things continue the way they have I can just run something else when the whole operation goes pear shaped.
It's been a couple weeks of head scratching and I hope I have figured out what is going on with these girls. The 2 autos are acting completely different with the same feed and light. The White Widow photo has finally decided to put on some growth (not really what I need now). The only thing I can really point to is how light the one pot is. I think it may not be mixed properly and has too much/not enough peat or vermiculite or soil or something. This pot always seems to be light and dry, almost like coco. I flushed all with a gallon of water mixed with Sledgehammer (yucca). I had been going 3 days between watering, but I need to check the one every 2 days now.
The White Widow will be a monster by NYGC so I topped it. I tried to start some clones for giggles but that is the plan for later during the NYGC. If these take maybe I will use them.
Well, all I can say is, changing nothing has given me the exact same poor response I have been getting from these babies. HEAL THYSELF! OK That doesn't work. I have checked my Ph and it is within range. Unless all my meters (3) are broken. Since I didn't want to radically change the nutes I have decided to give these "golden girls" some folier love. It looks promising.
I topped the White Widow and will probably just keep topping for a while. I pulled the branches down and will probably top those four. I'm creating a monster or maybe a mother. I don't know. It's only fitting since this was a PTGC start that did not take off.
Coming up on the final days for Cinderella Jack. These did not get to the massive proportions I was expecting but that's the case with Autos and Me. They do have a nice smell and they look almost neon. I'm just going to go with the timings offered by the breeder and chop these at 10 weeks. They have been on a 20/4 schedule from the beginning, so they got plenty of light. Time to make room. Time for 12/12. Time for the former keg cupper to break out and shine. It's White Widow time!
And then there was One! What a ride this journal has been. A testimony to the many things that can go wrong and right in a season. This started off as an attempt to train a single plant from a clone. Romulan Grapefruit - Expecting cheese. Got deep diesel funk. I messed this one up and should try again
Frisian Dew - Easy, self supporting, decent yield. Unique smell. Tight nugs. not much resin. Skunky undertones EZ Trim
Critical Purple Kush - Big plant, decent yield, broken lower branches. Fruity grape aroma.
Lemon Tree- Huge plants, needed support. Glorious smell. Sticky sticky. Good volume and bag appeal. WINNER!
Vanilla Kush - Late bloomer, nice bush structure, med yield. OMG! The smell of Kush. Tastes Great. Knock down stone.
Cinderella Jack - Never looked great but produced anyway. Looks great as autos go.
White Widow - TBD Just flipped to flower. She's all alone with a scrog. Multiple toppings. 20/4 veg schedule. Expecting hollow stems because of the 20/4 but this babe is stout. Lots of thick vegetation so I will watch closely. And as to be expected, this plant is throwing off my schedule for the NYGC. Debating another tent since I have everything else. Until then ....
