NYGC PBreeding: Chef's New Gear Grow Challenge
Almost done! Looks like we have a nerc with a longer flowering time. I'm going to move her into another tent when the rest are done. Not long now.
Well we're finishing up now, 3 of the 4 are being flushed. Luckily one of the first plants to be harvested is up front, this will make things easier when I switch the solo nerc into a different tent.
Only one plant has started senescence but we're seeing amber on the others as well. Love the beautiful fall colors this Afghan cherries has.
The other cherries will probably come down next. Interestingly she has more amber than the one in senesce.
The rock candy that's not a sativa leaner is kind of disappointing. Don't have pics yet but she got a little lockout or excess pk and sugar leaves aren't looking very good. I'm sure the flush will stop progression and she will be fine.
Now that I've grown these strains from Kyle, I'm going to make a mother out of another cherries I popped. I'll give the nerc another shot soon because I wouldn't mind getting another sativa leaner, the buds on it look awesome. I'll get those photos up in a few days 😉. Be sure to check my IG for other things I'm doing. https://www.instagram.com/p/B_NERC6hmQC/?igshid=1261h8ig3czjl
Happy 420 everyone!! Grower love!!
I had a long post going on but I guess auto save didn't work.
Anyways my cure area is a little warm and I need to get it fixed before I take the rest of the plants down. I'll probably just end up taking them all. The other nerc I thought would take longer looks more ready than I thought, but still has some time yet.
I didn't get any trim pics but I did take one cherries down.
After trimming it up I realized I could have just taken the tops and let the rest ripen, I don't normally do that but should have made an exception. I'll figure these LEDs out yet.
I spread the other plants out a bit and let them finish ripening on the bottoms so atleast the larf will still be better than the first plant I took down. Anyways I'll get some more harvest pics up in a couple days. Happy growing!!
Waiting on the rest of the stuff to finish drying but we got almost 10oz. off of one Afghan cherries. I'm guessing the other cherries will be very close if not more than this.
I'm pretty sure I only got half that from the one nerc I took down. I have one more plant to take down and the nerc should be ready to weigh out.
I did a wet trim on the other cherries and I'm going to run a terpene analysis to see if there is any difference.
here's some nerc drying
I'm pretty sure I got a little more from the nerc that I haven't chopped yet, probably around 6oz. on that one. She's in the dark now so I'll get some pics of her chopped in a couple days.
Hope everyone had a good time growing along with us in the challenge. Stay tuned for updated weight and pics. Harvest date will be a little off here since my plants came down at different times. Happy growing!!
Sorry it's been awhile, had to wait for plants to dry. Still have to trim and jar another nerc but have some totals from my other cherries and the smaller nerc.
nerc and now the cherries.
I'm not sure what I've got on the other nerc, the buds are a little more sense and a bit larger in size than the one already dried. I'm estimating close to 200g. We'll see in about 4-5 days.
Taste test review coming soon of the cherries. You can check my IG to see what I've been up to lately. https://www.instagram.com/p/B_5knJOH-Vu/?igshid=u5fx3fyh9lmq
Trimmed what I had left hanging, some wet weather brought me some moldy bud. Threw out more than an ounce of big hugs. I should've knew better then to wet trim. 🤦♂️🤮
Luckily it was just one part of the plant, I thought I snapped it apart enough to get proper airflow when I hung it to dry. Should've removed the stalks instead of trying to hang quarter pieces of the whole plant. This is why I normally wet trim or even break big buds apart so that doesn't happen. I was trying to conduct my own little expirement with terpenes but ended up over drying this a bit despite the humidity.
haven't weighed it yet, I'm thinking it's a little over 200g. All together it's going to be really close to 1000g. Going to see if I can bring the buds back to life a bit before I weigh. Kicking myself for wet trimming all week now. 🤪🤪😱😵🤕
600 watts max and think I'm rounding up. Mars hydro ts1000 x3 all produced 200+ gram plants. The cheap led 130g. Going to check that against the calculator but I think I did pretty well for my second run with unfamiliar light sources. I'll definitely improve moving forward with better lighting and training.
Okay time to do some math. Sucks that I actually lost a lot of bud to mold, estimated 60g loss. Here is the total weight from the sativa leaning rock candy.
this batch came out pretty dry, I couldn't really bring back any moisture and was worried about more mold. I'll still burp jars just less occasionally, going to age it a bit before sampling. So let's go back and add this up.
270+130+260+155=815g under 3 ts1000 and a cheap Chinese led at estimated 150watt draw from all 4 equals a rough 600watts. 815÷600= 1.3g per watt. Closer to 1.4gpw if I didn't lose some.
Not my best attempt but I did recover from some minor problems.
Coming from hid experience I did fairly well.
- Light burn and low lighting
- Improper use of light height
- Lack of training and tying
- Insufficient lollipops left me with a bunch of larf
- Drying mistake gave me mold losing a small percent of harvest
- Early health problems due to misuse of lighting.
Just some things I could've done better, atleast my grow environment was pretty much ideal and I've improved in that regard. So I'll take this as more of a learning experience than intended and will dial in the rest of the issues moving forward.
I'm going to refrain from giving my taste review until I see something descriptive from others. Especially in regards to rock candy since we all grew the same strain. I'll mark this journal as complete now @dr-coco and would love to hear your take on the Afghan cherries before I write my taste tests.
Thank you all for joining and following along. I'm overall happy with the quality and potential of these 2 strains and hope those of you that didn't Herm like what you've produced.
It's unfortunate that some people had this problem, I really wish I could've grown some of those strains that did Herm and see if I would've experienced the same issue. I really hope people didn't intentionally do it, and I hope if it was grower error or significant stress that caused it, you have learned from it. We all make mistakes and I'll surely own up to mine. If it was just the seeds then I think @predicativebreeding will take the correct course of action and attempt to prevent these things in the future. I'm just infuriated to see so much hate go out to someone that has put in work and effort to make quality cannabis into seeds. Not to mention the early released seeds were pretty much given to us with little hassle at a very affordable rate.
Anyways I'm done with my rant, hope you all have many great grows in your future. ☮️

I'll wait to see what others say about the rock candy before making a post about it. Was really hoping to hear from @dr-coco to see what he thought about the cherries.
Feel free to leave a comment here about your thoughts anyone. Let me know what the rock candy tastes and smells like or any of the other strains for that matter. Happy growing!!
