Hi all! I'm going to be going on a small adventure with some sensitive plants. I have successfully germinated 3 dark ghost train haze and 2 gg4 bagseeds. These plants have been known to hermaphrodite but I'm going to go for it anyway.
Germination began one week to the day and we have sprouted with a gg4 still in the shell,a little helmet head, but should come around soon.
Short story about the dgth found in the NYGC challenge. And the gg4 bag seed was from a legit breeder that hasn't shown up in a while on the market. I'm itching for some to smoke and hopefully this will be sufficient.
I've got a cool mutation going on with one of the dgth and I'm hoping she's the one lol. I've thought about my consequences and am willing to take a risk to get some fire from some sensitive plants.
I'm going to be growing these in a recycled soil mix found in the soil section. I added a few inputs such as insect frass, alfalfa meal, green sand, oyster shell, azomite, blood meal, and a few others. It's another organic run and I'm going to have to stay on top of my ipm and whatever might make these girls turn into boys. I wouldn't recommend any grower trying to use bag seed but I've had plenty of experience with this.
Hopefully my knowledge and diligence will pay off here, I'll keep a full record of light cycle; currently 16-8 but will increase a couple hours once I get something to block the light from keeping us up at night. 200watt florescent and clip on led desk lights will be used and will add another led as they get bigger, also adjusting the light and table as they progress.
Made a propagation area/ table with a steel desk that was being scrapped and will further modify it in the future to better suit my intentions.
Fingers crossed on this one and hope my experience will pay off now more then ever. I'll be adding to this journal as I go and hope you all will follow along. This is just something very spontaneous and not thought through, so I'm sure I'm missing things. Happy growing all!!
I was worried about leaving my seedlings while I went to Vegas. I had 2 helmet heads and only one pulled out of it while I was away. Soil got dry and one gg4 bagseeds didn't make it out.
Here's a close up of the three leaf seedling, she'll probably grow out of this mutation, though it's nice to have a big leaf like this for photosynthesis 😉
The weather has been so weird lately, my Rh has been kind of spikey. Temps are fine but could be a little warmer, think I'll get some heat mats, I was planning on getting them for later on but now would be a good time as any since it really isn't or hasn't been that hot here.
Did some transplanting and modified the propagation table a bit.
think I'm going to run these gals in my shop while I get a sativa grow going so I can have a free tent. Thinking if I can flip by late September they should be ready before major frost hits or it gets bitter cold.
I forgot to mention one of these are a Mama Mia, love this strain atm and want to run some hash or rosin from it.
I'll run the Colorado cookies auto under these LEDs and see if I can squeeze these in a 4x4. The sooner I can flip the better, we need to keep them from over crowding my space. Stay tuned! I'll have plans for my shop unfolding soon. Happy growing!
Filling out my pots, fimd my auto, and took off lower growth tips. Almost time to start my topping with a couple of these gals. Need to get my shop and tent cleaned out for this grow but I've just been lazy.
Got a couple vigorous plants here that needed transplanted, the Mama Mia and a dark ghost train Haze.
The gg4 bag seed went through a little transplant shock but appears to be bouncing back after a day in the sun and some mykos wp. 2 other dgth are doing well and almost ready for transplanting.
My Colorado cookies auto seems to be doing well after the fim though I see pistils now where it was fimd, but not any where else.
Anyways I'm trying to get my other tent running in the shop but I'm concerned about my environment. I might have to set up another area to grow inside the house.
Can't wait for the new LEDs to get here so I don't have to worry about popping breakers. I might be able to set my tents side by side now that I'll be drawing less watts from the wall. May have to order another LED for the 4x4 but it will have to wait a couple more weeks. My plans are coming together slowly, just have to be patient. Happy growing all!!
Everyone but the gg4 bag seed is in their final pots. Time to start topping and training. I want to try cloning the tops from the vigorous Mama Mia and dark ghost train haze but I have no clonex solution and no dome. I'm not even sure I'll have space for them lol. Going to wait a few days to top the others since they were just transplanted.
New lights came and man are they bright. I'm considering buying another tent and light so I won't have to worry about weather out in the shop. I was going to clean up the one in the shop but the wife wants me to keep it out there just incase I need an extra space.
I've got hope that they will be truly female. I've taken extra precautions to ensure no light leakage, loose soil (not compacted), and temp swings. I'm going to refrain from using heavy fertilizers and excessive training or leafing.
Trying to get rid of a gnat problem that has found it's way into my Coco grow as well. Going to be ordering two different types of predators this run, I'll be adding sand to the top layer of soil. I'm going to try staying on top of my ipm game with this supersoil mix.
This is the third run with recycled soil and things are looking great. They're growing a little faster this run and transplanting recovery was speedy as well. I've used mykos wp for my transplants, they loved the root application and drench. Might make up a light top dressing for recent transplants. I'm trying to get away with water only this grow, but might use a tea here and there. My only real concern now is the bloom production, but we'll worry about that when the time comes.
Happy growing!! Growers Love!!
Wow been a while since I updated. New tent came in so I've been busy with my other grow and working non-stop since we fired someone at work.
I'm about to go into a 12/12 light schedule and the Colorado cookies will have to finish under that. My fridge started leaking and had to plant her since the seed already got wet. She might get shaded out.
Mama Mia in the back right is just rocking under the new LEDs, the other plants seem to enjoy them too.
Front right, and the left side are dgth. One in the back I accidently clipped off a main. She bounced right back from super cropping too so I'll have to tie her down. Front left is just getting lst, she hasn't been topped but has had some trimming on the lower growth. Going to get rid of a lot of bottom growth to avoid possible hermaphrodism. Front right has been fimd, the node spacing was really short and thought it was a better option. Trying to do some leaf tucking so she can breathe, might clean her up some and try training by bending her over to promote lower shoots and side branching.
Gg4 bagseed in the middle. She didn't want to grow in her little pot but when I moved her into the #5 fabric pot, she was pleased. However she has some concerning coloring that could possibly be tmv. I should really take her out and keep an eye on her but I'll give it a week to see how she develops. Hope I don't have to cull.
Hopefully these all stay girls. Still have lots of time to go, things can change. I'll start marking flower day after next top dressing and after I get some training done. Haven't had to water very often so I'll need some time for the top dressing to become available to the plant. Probably next week sometime. Wish me luck growmies!
First week of transition, I thought I saw pistils. Not ready to start counting flowering yet though. I like to go by morphology and like to see flowers unfurling before I start counting.
I'm going to be taking off any lower growth and certain growth tips that are being shade out. Trying to go for some big tops and no larf. Tied them down and cleaned them up.
Mama Mia is showing her vigor and wants to be the biggest girl in the room.
The front right dgth doesn't want anything to do with elongating and is reluctant to work on branching.
Front left dgth keeps escaping my tie downs, she wasn't topped and just wants to push the auto flower out of the tent. Her and her closest neighbor, dgth formentioned, have some very light green tops, almost yellow. Not sure what's going on but they still look happy to me.
Back dgth has steady elongation and purple stems, I know it isn't cold and the other dgth show it as well. She is trying to keep up with Mama Mia in height and vigor. Her lower branching has been removed, lower growth tips removed, she reminds me of a couple of my defoliated plants I grew a few years back. She really is a sexy plant imo.
GG4 bagseed hasn't been topped or tied, though she's got some crazy side branching coming from lower growth. I wanted to top, I wanted to train the top down and promote more but she seems to be doing just fine how she is now. She was the misfit of the bunch and didn't start making her stride until I got her in her final container. She has one leaf with mottling that I thought might be tmv but just appears to be a slight variegation. I don't expect her to produce like the other girls in the tent but I still want to keep her around.
I really hope they all stay female, if not I'll have some interesting seeds on the other strains. I'll be willing to grow them out if it happens just to see if I can find a keeper.
Just keeping an eye out for flowers now, maybe a couple more days. Still got my fingers crossed lol. Anyways, have a great week everyone and happy growing.
Day 2 of flower, I couldn't get my photos until today. Just trying to keep the ones in the back tied down. Managing the canopy now and might have to cull the gg4 bagseed. It's the only plant that hasn't shown sex yet and all of the preflowers are questionable. It definitely doesn't want to compete with the other plants, and has been behind the whole grow. I was waiting on that one in particular to flip but looks like I'm going to have to remove it regardless.
The Colorado cookies is finishing on 12/12 and appears it may get shaded out, I'm going to move them a bit when the bag seed let's me down. I should just get rid of it now, but I want to be certain before I decide. I've seen something similar to this in my last gg4 bagseed grow so things aren't always as they seem. But I feel the other girls will need the space anyways.
So this is when I start counting flower days, just before budlets start forming, though Mama Mia looks like she's already starting to head up. It still is a better guideline in my experience to mark down a harvest date now and see how long it goes from there. Never have I been able to pull sooner than anticipated.
So far these plants have had nothing but, mykos wp, water, Trinity and a little hpk, plus 3 top dressings. All from my recycled soil mix. Temps have been stable humidity is becoming a factor but think I can manage it.
Feel free to leave comments or ask questions. Happy growing everyone!!
We're looking good. Thought I saw some gnats flying around and went to swat at it with a sticky trap like a fly swatter and got this on the trap.
At first I thought it was a snow flea, but consulting Mr Matthew Gates he informed me it was a rove beetle which explains the flying.
This is likely a good sign I won't have a gnat problem or other pests, since they typically feed on them as well as maggots and those found on animal carcasses.
Plants in the back are on full on stretch mode and I'm pretty sure lights are dialed to the same intensity. Front right is bushing out and starting to get leggy. The front right is getting leggy and not really bushy, she's trying to shade out the Colorado cookies auto and gg4. The gg4 isn't topped but has undifferentiated growth and some wierd preflower formation. Keeping an eye on it, but so far it's nothing but weedheads and pistils.
I'll try to get better pics up but wanted to share my insect experience.
I see the flower counter didn't work for me for some reason so we can't really go by that now. So we'll have to compensate for days missed. Follow my posts on Instagram to see more. I'm educating myself and others with the sensitivity and oddities in cannabis plants. Happy growing!!
One dgth has been culled. Saw signs of hermaphrodism on one branch, I thought about just cutting off the branch, but I don't have time to worry about it. So far everything else looks okay. The gg4 bag seed still questioning if it is true female, I think if it does Herm it's going to be nanners, just a gut feeling. We've got our eyes peeled and I'm checking them daily for things like this.
Hopefully we won't have to cull the others.
Another one bites the dust! Gg4 bagseed started throwing out nanners. This is the first time I've seen it this early into flower. I'm glad I caught it and now only have 3 plants to worry about. Actually only 2 that I don't trust, the Mama Mia has been good to me every grow.
I'm actually debating on doing a switcheroo now that I'm down a couple plants. My 3x3 is shorter and I think I have enough height but we'll give it another week to see how stretch plays out. I'm thinking of switching the Coco girls to the 5x5 because I know how explosive they can be. I feel I'm going to run out of space in the 3x3 with the way the Coco run is going.
I'll have some tent shots pretty soon, just wanted to show everyone what the nanners look like. Happy growing!!
So the switcheroo happened. I went into the tent and sealed myself in...nope no light leaks. It's odd that the plants that used to be in here are taking their time to start flowering, but that's for another journal.
Things are going pretty good and everyone seems healthy. They got some kelplex and Trinity the other day followed by plain water today. This recycled soil is really nice now that it's on the third season. I removed some sticky traps and saw some mycelium growing. Time to get some straw/alfalfa to cover the pots.
I'm really glad I got them switched out though because they were looking lonely in the 5x5. Now they really look like they've filled the space in the 3x3 and have been there the whole time. Now let's see how well this led pans out.
Hopefully we're in the clear and the 2 dgth stay female. The s1 seed I got from growing it last time stayed female all the way through in detrimental conditions. So half the reasons according to breeder why it may have hermd have been eliminated. I wonder what their breeding conditions, media, and training were like when they decided to throw out some expensive and unstable seeds. Maybe I should email and ask.
On another note... I bought some gg4 from the dispensary, reliable breeder, and never found seeds in their product until now. Super weird though since it was the last nug in the jar. I felt like I hit the jackpot for a moment lol. We're going to winterize them and get them going when there's plenty of room to go through the process of inspecting and or culling. Anyways happy growing everyone! Trying to keep these posts interesting has become hard, my work is getting ridiculous and I've been really overwhelmed. Gardening makes me feel better though 😜
Halfway there. The dgth is supposed to be a 65-75 day flowering time, the Mama Mia is around 80 but her pistils are starting to change color on the lowers. If I don't see balls within the next couple of weeks, I think I'll be safe from hermaphrodism. These pics are the dgth, pistils are changing on some lowers as well though not as prominent as Mama Mia.
If you look closely at these next set of pics you can see the pistils are changing color on lowers but the tops are still rocking white pistils.
Harvest time expected around 30-40 days clearing up a tent for NYGC, if I can refrain from popping new beans and cloning. I've got some starts from my other grow and popped a gg4 bagseed just out of curiosity. I think my 5x5 will still be occupied so I'll have to think about what my plan of attack is for the NYGC. It's getting close and I'm getting excited to grow along with everyone.
I think we have some new participants and running a fellow growers gear is a special treat. @dr-coco is it time to get those beans yet lol. I'm going to try holding out for an entire month from starting another round 🤪😅. I'm already getting that itch again, I just love raising the bar for myself, as if I didn't have enough going on already 😉.
Anyways the girls are happy in my soil mix and I'm going to be getting some products from another fellow grower for more organic grows. I'm really interested in trying some bokashiearthworks, so I started another compost. I've added some crab apples, wild mushrooms, and green material from pruning.
It's become a real joy, and a sense of accomplishment comes over me when I see healthy beautiful plants that just require good water and love.
Happy Growing everyone, hope to see you in the NYGC! 🌱💚

Just cruising along now, and I think I've got another hiccup. I was looking on seedsman site and they say 8 weeks for Mama Mia? Maybe I've miscounted my days? I know previous grows have taken longer than that but this one seems right on que. Though she doesn't smell like she normally does and I'm wondering if I mixed the seed up somehow. This was just an eenie meenie mini mo kind of thing lol.
Anyhow, she is definitely ripening before the others and smells pretty much the same as the other 2 which is really odd since I have culled plants this grow.
The dgth on the left is also starting to ripen up as well, she only has 3 mains but just as well since it's a little crammed in there.
Dgth on the right is atleast a week behind the other as far as ripening, from my pov.
I might be looking at a sooner harvest time with what I believed to be Mama Mia, maybe another pheno?
I had forgotten how dry it gets at times when lights are on and let the pots get too dry. However I don't have pest problems like I normally would this time of year. I saw another rove beetle in my soil and I've found a couple lady bugs in my grow room as well, which is a delightful sign. My wife didn't appreciate the lady bug as much as I did when it was spotted on my television later that evening 😅.
Underwatering in supersoil can create some problems in my experience. I'm assuming with roots drying out and the interaction of soil nutrients it creates a high ec in the rhizosphere. This can lead to deficiency, tip burn, or lock out. Luckily I noticed these signs beforehand and have since created a nice level of saturation. No cause for alarm just yet and hope I'm intuitive enough to be on top of it. But so far so good and females to boot.
I'm really not interested in saving the genetics and just take the loss on the high price seeds. I have a few s1 seeds from last NYGC so if I really want I can pick through those lol. Happy growing everyone!!
