eveningGrow Review: The Great by Twenty20 Mendocino
This plant was grown outdoors in a raised garden bed with living organic soil and homemade compost. She was boosted with periodic compost teas with Roots Organic Terp Tea. She occupied the shady section but seemed to like it just fine with around 8 hours or less of direct sunlight. She was started from a feminized seed outside in early May and was transplanted to her final home in late May.
How Much Does The Great Stretch?
Pretty substantial stretch. She became a very large plant, about 6 feet tall and as much wide. Needed multiple training sessions to keep her below the line of sight on our fence.
Harvesting The Great
Unfortunately she needed to be chopped early. The caterpillars got into her pretty bad and I was chopping about an ounce a day off of her by mid August to keep the rot from spreading. Then we got a hard rain mid September so I elected to take her down after that. I was observing good cloudy trichomes by that point with a few amber so she had come far enough. The breeder says mid October for harvest so I’m sure the extra weeks would have improved the yield and condition of the buds but if I waited until then, there would have been nothing left.
Drying, Trimming and Curing The Great
I got the fan leaves off but left the sugar to slow the dry. She was hung in the shed around 50% humidity and 70ish degrees for two weeks. Pretty hot at that time so not ideal but still got a good dry. Then dry trimmed and in jars with regular burping. I did put some humidipacks in the jars because she got a little on the dry side. Stills smells good 6 months later!
The Flavor and Smell of The Great
Wonderful smell throughout the grow. Very unique, strong overripe strawberry smell with a hint of gas. In the jars the smell became more complex but still smelled like strawberry with gas and spice. Overall just super fire weed. Very smelly terpene bomb just as the breeder noted!
The Effects and Uses of The Great
I’m growing for others and don’t smoke myself but it was described as mellow and smooth, not overpowering or heavy. Everyone liked the taste of the smoke and the smell in the grinder was delicious.
My Overall Impressions of The Great by Twenty20 Mendocino
A joy of a plant to grow. By far the healthiest in the garden. She resisted the spider mites and thrips much longer than the others even though the caterpillars got her good. She tolerated the shade nicely and the extreme heat well. My guess is the strain leans to the indica side but she had long internodes and produced multiple golf ball buds that did not stack into massive colas. Beautiful plant!
