Grow Review: Shining Silver Haze by Royal Queen Seeds

Shining Silver Haze is one of my favorites. I grew two seeds and both plants were great producers. It was a long grow though, being a haze, so buckle in for 11 weeks of flowering. The two shining silver haze plants shared a tent with 4 other plants. I manifolded all of them (topped twice with 8 mains). So I had 6 manifolds in a 4x4 tent under 2 Viparspectra 450 reflector series lights that draw a total of 412 watts. I harvested a total of 409 grams with a considerable portion coming from the two Shining Silver Hazes. The two plants yields were 106g and 122g. They were strong plants that really dominated the others. And they really didn’t resemble each other. One plant had long dense colas that seemed to have white pistils forever. The other plant had an open calyx structure and big dense buds that looked ripe far earlier than her sister. However, both plants actually ripened within a couple days of each other.

How Much Does Shining Silver Haze Stretch?

They stretched a lot. I was able to mostly contain them, but they pushed the other plants away and grew up and tried to throw shade on their tentmates. They responded well to supercropping and I was pretty aggressive with that during the stretch. The plants were manifolded and they were 20” tall at the flip to 12/12. They ended up at over 50”… Despite significant supercropping. So, they can be managed, but you have to manage it. It is fun working with plants that like to grow like this though!

Harvesting Shining Silver Haze

As I approached the harvest window one of the plant’s leaves started to turn purple. It was very pretty and a good sign that the plant was nearing the end. The other plant (what I call the #1 plant) continued to have erect pistils through 10 weeks of flowering. It looked like she still had a way to go when her sister started turning purple. However, both plants were about 50% cloudy trichomes the first time I checked them. I let them go until I started to see a few opaque amber trichomes. At that point there were also still a few clear trichomes on the lower buds. According to my notes, 90% of the trichomes were cloudy to translucent amber.

Drying, Trimming and Curing Shining Silver Haze

I wet trim pretty tight, as can be seen in the photos. I then dried for 5 days at 70f and about tried to keep up at 50% Humidity. The dry was just about perfect but went a little faster than I would have liked. It is dry here, so fighting low humidity and I avoid using humidifier for risk of mold. But it was a good dry. They were pretty easy to stabilize in the cure zone (about 62%RH at 70f) and I cured them for quite a while. Indeed, this harvest was 16 months ago and I still have some of each plant technically curing in their jars. It has gotten better and better and I would rather hold onto it forever than run out! The #1 plant was great very quickly – and one of my favorites after only 3-week cure. The purple plant with the open calyx structure took longer to cure. At first, I thought it was not nearly as good, but it gradually became almost as great as the other.

The Flavor and Smell of Shining Silver Haze

I am really bad with describing flavor, but I can say for sure that each plant has a slightly different flavor. The #1 plant is great and one of my favorite smokes. It has an indescribable taste that reminds me of great pot I smoked decades ago. The flavor lingers after the exhale and always pleases. I guess lemon and other citrus tones, but it just really tastes like good cannabis! The purple plant is a little less potent in terms of flavor. It became smooth after a much longer cure, but by two months in was really a pleasant smoke.

The Effects and Uses of Shining Silver Haze

This is my favorite daytime strain. It is bright and active. It takes the edge off and allows me to be productive. When I have to clean the house or do a lot of gardening chores, this is the perfect companion. I am able to do a lot of intellectual work with Shining Silver haze as well. However, I would not describe it as a contemplative strain. It is more happy, energetic and (especially the #1 plant) Giggly!

My Overall Impressions of Shining Silver Haze by Royal Queen Seeds

One of my all-time favorite plants. I am very low on supply so I will be looking to pop a couple more of these seeds soon. I really recommend Shining Silver haze if you are looking for a great daytime strain. It is fun to grow – a super vigorous seedling – and just awesome colas! It is a great smoke and a perfect uplifting high.
