I used a peat based soil mix, giving mostly water only from start to finish. My soil mix is roughly 1/3rd aeration (90% pumice 10% rice hulls), 1/3rd Canadian sphagnum peat moss, and 1/3rd compost (vermicompost in this case and for me generally). This mix is known as the Cornell mix for a base. Gypsum, as well as craft blend were added to provide micronutrients and organic matter to complete the soil. This soil was reamended from m3 base (aka Michigan Made Mix aka Medical Marihuana mix) and used for a 2nd or 3rd cycle
How Much Does Berry Lights Stretch?
The plants did not stretch very much, from veg height of about 12 inch tall bush, the final plants finished in flower between 16 and 18 inches tall so about 0.5x veg height stretch, which is much less then most things I have ever run in my set up (usually double or triple in height, have had strains 4x veg height in rarer cases!).
Harvesting Berry Lights
The plant was done at 8 weeks I let it go another half week to let some of the trichomes amber and see the stigmas/pistil turn from white to fully amber across the plant. could be taken 7 or 7.5 weeks if looking for more uplifiting smoke as bud structures were developed. I wanted this to be true to its "indica" leaning hybrid, so I let it mature to fully ripe. 9 weeks would have been too long.
Drying, Trimming and Curing Berry Lights
I did a side by side by side, 3 different drying and curing conditions. 1: Control: hang dry in my tent (50-65% rh, mainly staying 55-60% rh most times, temp= 67-77 f) 10 to 14 days til stems begin to snap. Brown paper bag buds for 24-36 hours to allow moisture out of inside of buds/soften crispy outer leaf up. Trim, then glass jar cure. checking a bud to smoke every few days after about 2 weeks in jar. Found ideal cure to smoke is 1 month after jarring with this method. At 2 weeks in jar it is smokeable, but got better until 1 month then kept very well even up to 1 year cured (stored at 60f/60% rh in curidor) 2: Curidor hang dry and cure: 14 days in curidor device which keeps perfect 60*f and 60% rh. trimmed the buds, and jarred in glass, in curidor for another 14 days at 60/60 before it was smokeable. Ideal cure with this method wasn't until about 1.5 to 2 months into curing. also kept very well, stored up to 1 year 3: My herbs now: filled device, run machine for 4.5 day cycle + an extra 24 hour cycle til stems popped, trim and glass jar into curidor at 60/60. It was smokeable right then at 5.5 days (and as good or better then either condition mentioned above). After 1 week in the curidor the moisture had come back into buds at perfect levels and it was the best cured and dried bud i'd ever smoked. the herbs now worked way better then I expected and made better buds then either of the other 2 conditions, in less then 2 weeks from chop had perfect cured smokeable buds.. other conditions took much longer to get to a less quality product. The herbs now buds cured very well, not any bits of mold, and had less worries early days into jars
The Flavor and Smell of Berry Lights
The flavor is a mix of sweet blueberries on the front end with subtle notes of pine and pronounced fuel like gasoline flavor and smells mixed in the back end.
The Effects and Uses of Berry Lights
This strain tends to be very sedating for my wife and as well as the dozen or so friends who have tried it. it can help sleep, and I am able to go to bed after its use, but it won't drag me down to sleep personally, although it does have that effect on a couple others who tried it.
My Overall Impressions of Berry Lights by Kineos Genetics
I really like the berry lights. it is very easy to grow, in a garden where many other seedlings were showing issues with either the lighting or soil or combination of both, the berry lights stayed lush green, healthy and happy all the way thru veg and grew well in flower until it stopped stretching, stacking up buds then finally fading.
