SAFC Ants (Misfits): Bruce nd the Gorilla
Hello, nice to see you again. Been a while?
Thanks to @TheBrad I will be growing HomeGrown Cannabis seeds. I have chosen the GG#4 and Bruce Banner. I chose these two because I am familiar with both strains. Bruce is especially strong and GG#4 is one of my favorites.
These autos will be planted outside among the flowers and vegetables using the sunshine to drive photosynthesis. I have not chosen what I will feed them, if anything at all. Over the last year, the flower beds have been unused. I have been adding wood chips, leaves, grass, old fox farm from previously chopped plants, fresh peat, fresh soil, old mushroom cakes, a little coco and some garden Gypsum.
I have not decided on anything else at the moment but that is the plan so far. I will update the journal with pics of the flower beds soon. Still waiting for last frost date to pass before I rototill the soil and plant the ladies.
So I dropped 2 of each kind of seed and wrapped them in paper towels. I had misplaced my scuffer box so I used the file on the fingernail clippers to sand each seed down a little. I soaked them for 24+ hrs and placed them in wet paper towels in a plastic lunch box.
Instead of using a heating mat, I used the heat from the mycelium growing in the jars and placed the lunch box in the cooler along side of them. The Mycelium create heat through thermogenesis and the cooler stays at 75-76 degrees Fahrenheit.
I just checked the seeds tonight and the two Bruce Banner have sprouted and both the GG#4 have not. The GG#4 do appear as if they are going to open. So tomorrow morning I will check it again and if they are ready they will be put in some small pots with peat until they are ready for the great outdoors.
I do not have many pics, so I included one of the flower bed where the plants will reside once it warms up.
Both Bruce seed have opened and have risen above the peat. I transplanted them to dirt Saturday morning and put them in a nice sunny spot on a shelf with a humidity dome. I took the dome off to take the picture. They were up and had shed their shell by this morning, Monday.
I had one Gorilla open but I think I damaged it while transferring it to the peat. The other Gorilla seed looked as if it were about to open and I could see just a little bit of the root coming out of the side.
So the other GG#4 popped up and opened last night. Which means I broke one GG#4 but all my seeds popped. 🤣 🤣 🤣 Super happy about that. Not often I have all of my seeds pop. Good Job Home Grown Cannabis Co. Seeds!!
After germinating them in the sun I moved them downstairs under the Viparspectra temporarily. They are sitting next to some autoflowers I was practicing on before the SAFC started.
The plan is to bring them back up stairs today and place them on the shelf by the window before they permanently go outside this weekend. They will be planted alongside sunflowers and some other plants in the garden bed.
The seedlings have been moved upstairs by the window/siding door. The the weather is turning nice this week so all the plants should be in the ground by then. I got a leaner , not a lot going on with the seedlings otherwise. They are just getting acclimated to the sun and am waiting for the rain to stop so I can till the flower beds.
Here is a pic of them wishing they were outside.
Still in tiny pots sitting outside waiting for the sun. 😎 🤣 It is coming. I will be putting plants into the ground tomorrow and I will update with more pics soon. They need some support that is for sure.
I have been sick this whole last weekend and still. I am going to muster the strength tomorrow to prepare the ground and get the babies in there. I Just wanted to give a quick update and I will post pictures in the morning.
So covid is still kinda kicking my ass but I am finally starting to feel better. I did torture myself and do some yard work. I got the plants in the ground a few days ago but they don't look like they are doing so good. I think I might have taken them outside too soon and the cold stunted them, possibly. They may also be in shock from transplanting. Not sure exactly but I am going to let them ride!
The sun is finally expected to hang around for at least a week. Hopefully, the plants will take off soon. Not looking good though😐 🤨 🤔
So the ladies are showing signs of life. Which I am very thankful for. The tomatoes and the sunflowers are taking off much faster. So that is a little disappointing. Although I am happy about that.
There are no signs of flowering yet that I can see. I haven't had to water yet since it has been raining off and on and the weather has been mostly cool. It gets to about 55 degrees Fahrenheit at night and is barely reaching 72 in the day. I have not fed them anything either. I am happy with the way they look but I wish they would grow a little bigger a little faster.
The Bruce Banner is the biggest and second biggest of the three plants. The Gorilla Glue#4 is the smallest.
Here are some pictures:
The plants are moving right along but growing a little slowly. So far only one plant has pistils showing, which makes me wonder. I had thought all autos were feminized. I am thinking I could have been wrong. 🤣 If I was or am wrong, that sucks because the biggest 'Lady" or Lola as I will refer to her, looks like a man. So does the second smallest plant. That would leave me with a super tiny outdoor auto. Which would be cool but also kinda poopy. At least the small one is up front and wont be blocked by the other plants, I hope.
On another note, the soil seems to be doing its job. I should have mixed more nitrogen into the soil but I will add a little manure mix as a top dress and see how that works. The mushroom cakes and the fox farm Ocean forest seem to be doing the job as I found a common "ink Cap" growing out of the soil.
Not much to report other than I am still not feeding it anything. It has been raining off and on so it has only been getting rain water and I have not needed to water them. The last time I checked the rain PH was last winter and it was right around at 6.5 but I haven't checked it recently.
Here are some pics:
The last two weeks we have had more sunshine and the plants have taken off. It appears that I have 2 Females and only one male. I have not pulled the male yet. I will be left with two Bruce Banner plants once I do. I am very glad to have another plant turnout to be female.
Other than that, I have not needed to water at all. It has been raining every 5-7 days it seems. I have not fed it either. The plant looks healthy and very thick stalked. When I take more pics I will include some other objects in the photo so the viewer can get a sense of scale.
Outdoor growing in Oregon is super easy if the plants are in the ground and they have enough nutrients and room to grow. You virtually never have to water. My first two outdoor grows I over watered big time. This time I am just letting it go.
Other than the weather starting off really crappy things are picking up and I am seeing some pre sexing going on. No real flower development yet though. I will keep waiting.
These Homegrown seeds are pretty good IMO.
Here are some pics:
So they are all Females!!! Hell Yeah, Bruce and the Gorilla are making Nuggles. They started flowering about a week ago. I had missed it somehow, but now the flowers are hard to miss. Seems a little late starting to flower than some other folks' but oh well.
The plants got tall enough that I needed to stake them for support due to the wind. They seem to like that very much and I had forgotten do that earlier in their life. It has been several years since I have grown outdoor.
Still not giving them any nutrients or anything. Just real simple easy going growing. No training or pruning for these plants. Couldn't be any easier. 🤩 😍 😎
Here are some pics.
It started Sprinkling outside today. So the plants got a little misting. The Plants are growing pretty fast. They are "putting on" flower much faster than I thought it would. I am pretty happy with the HomeGrown Cannabis Company.
I am still not feeding the plants any special nutrients, although I have been thinking about giving it something soon. Not sure what though. I am open to suggestions. 😀
Here are some pics of the the Bruce Banners and the Gorilla Glue. The Gorilla glue, I believe is in the middle, with the smallest nug development. It flowered a week later than the two Bruce Banners it seemed.
Here is the update.
Recently I have watered with a watering wand from the hose and the nugs have increased in size. I am very pleased so far.
I really am liking these Homegrown Cannabis Company seeds. I would like to purchase more and try out some feminized Photoperiod plants next time.
Plants look healthy though, just your regular outdoor grow with some spider webbing. Spiders are always welcome in my garden. It is probably the only place spiders are safe around me 🤣 🤣 🤣
Anyways, here are some pics.
Alright, It is looking like another week or so before I will get to harvest one of these ladies. There is no rain in the forecast for at least 10 days and it has been several weeks since it last rained. I haven't needed to water and still have not fed them anything. It has been one of the easiest grows I have experienced. Can't wait to chop and sample. LOL 🤩 🤩 🤩 🤩
