Undecided, I have some Brother Mendel's in mail, otherwise I will pop a Fast Buds purple lemonade or Twenty20 muchacha
The brother mendels is not here yet, popped a muchacha but once that arrives will prob go with something from them also
Dropped a seed in RO water and hydrogen peroxide.. I will wait until seed cracks and then go straight to the pot. I'll be using TPS nutrients, I am very pleased with my 2 current plants which are late flower on the stuff. Seed I chose is a Muchacha from Twenty20. This will be my second grow ever and first attempt at coco. I will hand water to begin and may switch over to a drip system depending how adventurous I get..
I have included some pics of current grow so it's not so boring.
Checked on seedling tonight and found it was tap root up. I flipped it over and gently covered it. Yesterday it was laying curled up in soil sprouting wierd. I may need to pop another seed will watch it and see how it looks tomorrow.
I checked on seedling tonight and seems to be doing well after correcting it yesterday. I have one other plant I started in Coco 2 weeks ago also, and it doesn't seem to have the root density/depth I get from soil. The plant feels loose due the nature of coco being so loose. when planting a seed, it almost seems as if it should go much deeper then when in soil? I am also eroding away the coco from around the plant when watering. I may need to add something to prevent washing it away so much, or water a lot slower.
I moved the seedling from a small 1oz cup to final pot this evening. I had originally intended this to be a coco grow, as a few weeks ago I bought some bricks and hydrated them and double washed in a cal mag solution. Let me tell you I will never do that again, way too much work! I thought 3 bricks would be enough but it barely yielded 5 gallons, when it says it should have yielded close to 12. I may have washed with too large of a screen filter losing a lot of volume but that's besides the point. I went and bought a large bago of coco loco today at my local nursery only to discover it's maybe 50% coco at best. The bottom 1/3 of the pots are straight coco and top 2/3 is coco loco.
I ended up dropping another seed a few days ago when I found the one tap root up, so I will have a second plant going that's appx 3-4 days behind. That plant is a Brother Mendel's black strap R1 which I also transferred to it's final pot this evening. It's just shed it's shell and popping out of soil but unsure it's going to take, the seed didn't crack after a 48hr soak so I cracked it and popped it into soil and overnight is came out so we shall see.
My nutrients for whatever reason grow a green algae on the soil top and also at bottoms of fabric pots. I originally thought it was due to being too wet my first grow, but no matter how little I water they get it. I am just going to assume is a beneficial growth.
The second seed came up tonight. It shed the seed shell but not the skin, I gently peeled it off but the back side of the cotyledons are either super dark or still have some skin on them, I'm not really sure. I think it will continue to grow though.
Plants are doing ok, not much stretch but I assume all the growth right now is under the soil not above. 1st pic is the Blackstrap and second is the Muchacha.
Chugging along slowly, I either stunted them moving to the main pot too early, or building roots like crazy. My other plant in Coco that's a month old took forever to get going also. In my soil grow I was 2-3x larger by now. 1st pic is Blackstrap 2nd is Muchacha.
Plant has improved but I don't like this coco loco I have, it's too hot. I have one plant in pure coco and perlite 2:1 and it's doing very well. Coco loco might as well be soil, it stays wet so long. I fed at 25% thinking it's coco and need a little bit of nutrients but that def wasn't the case and it's completely stunted the black strap and the Muchacha is showing some type of stress but will be fine. I put another black strap to soak tonight. I am going to plant another one and as soon as the new seed passes it up I will pull the other. Going to wash and prepare a coco brick tomorrow, it's an hour drive to a grow store but the local tractor supply sells coco bricks. Those that grow in Coco what do you prefer?
Moving along slowly, I won't buy this coco loco ever again, I will just use the bricks I can get from local store and hydrate and wash myself. Even if it's more work it's worth it in the long run. I included a pic of the plant I am growing also in Coco that's 12 days ahead of these and there is no comparison. Also included my 1st grow that's almost near harvest!
Muchacha
Black strap
Cookies and berries 12 days older then these.
1st grow is so close!
They have finally both decided to grow, I left town Fri-Sun and they changed significantly. The muchacha is on its 5th node and it's about 2.5", I was speaking with someone growing it on another forum and he had a 60 day veg, it stayed squat then took off. It's still wet after 48hours even the top soil hasn't dried unlike all other plants? it just not up taking any water and leaves feel somewhat rough. The Blackstrap is growing well, the seedling I planned has to get put into a pot today. Got some new mesh pots I am looking forward to trying.
